SRCC Launch New Outreach Premises in Carrick-on-Shannon

Sligo Rape Crisis Centre launch new outreach premises in Carrick-on-Shannon

On Monday 8th September, Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan officially launched the DMC Rooms, the new Sligo Rape Crisis Centre outreach location in Carrick-on-Shannon. Named in memory of late CEO, David Madden, this outreach location will be used for counselling survivors of sexual violence in Leitrim, as well as supporters of survivors.

SRCC CEO Danielle Neely said, “The demand for our services continues to grow. Increased public awareness has empowered more survivors to come forward, many seeking to process and heal from historic trauma. In 2024 alone, we delivered 1,865 counselling sessions.”

Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan said, “Domestic, Sexual and Gender Based Violence is an area that is extremely important to me and to the Government as a whole … Not just in Ireland, but in internationally years ago, this type of reprehensible behaviour was brushed under the carpet and in many respects, the criminal justice system and policymakers tolerated it. That does not happen anymore. And it’s very strong and important that we send out a message, that such type of behaviour is unacceptable and will result in a criminal prosecution and conviction.

Sligo Rape Crisis Centre provides a safe, free, confidential space for survivors of child sexual abuse, rape and sexual assault in Sligo, Leitrim, and Cavan. It is a place where adults and young people affected by sexual violence, can access support and counselling in a safe environment. Our mission is to create a safe place for those who have experienced sexual violence recently or in the past, and provide advocacy as required. We provide awareness and training to support other agencies who are working with survivors. We are committed to challenging the tolerance and existence of sexual violence and conduct outreach in the form of consent workshops for secondary school students. Freephone SRCC on 1800 750 780.
