Sligo Rape Crisis Centre held a reception on Friday 6th December to officially launch our new premises in Sligo Town. The event featured speeches from Mayor Tom MacSharry, SRCC chairperson Parvez Butt and board member Ruth Maxwell. There were tours of the offices and counselling rooms, light refreshments and music was provided by Rick Epping, Cormac MacDiarmada and Ruth Clinton.
SRCC CEO David Madden said, “This move marks a new chapter in the centre, where we establish a key location in the town to provide safe, discreet, specialist counselling for anyone affected by sexual violence.”
Mayor Tom MacSharry said, “The Sligo Rape Crisis Centre stands as a testament to the strength and resilience of our community, offering hope and healing to those who need it most.”
Secretary of SRCC Board, Ruth Maxwell, said, “This is not just bricks and mortar. This building symbolizes the resilience of survivors and the collective commitment to breaking the silence around sexual violence… This Centre is a haven where survivors can find healing, hope and strength, where their courage will be nurtured and their stories shared without fear or judgement.”
Sligo Rape Crisis Centre provides a safe, free, confidential space for survivors of child sexual abuse, rape and sexual assault in Sligo, Leitrim, and Cavan. It is a place where adults and young people affected by sexual violence, recently or in the past, can access support and counselling in a safe environment. We provide training to support other agencies who are working with survivors. We are committed to challenging the tolerance and existence of sexual violence and conduct outreach in the form of consent workshops for secondary school students.
Sligo Rape Crisis Centre will be closed for the Christmas period, from 20th December to 6th January. If anyone needs help during this period, please contact the National 24hr Helpline on freephone on 1800 77 8888. For more information, please contact: info@srcc.ie or 071-9171188
